the mainstream approach to caring for outdoor cats in communities nationwide
Trap, Neuter, Return Donate to Support TNROur TNR Program
People across North Texas—and all over the country—care for outdoor cats every single day. If you’ve discovered cats living around your home, business, or neighborhood and want to help them, you’re not alone. These unowned outdoor cats are often called community cats. Some may be friendly, some may be shy or unsocialized, but they are all domestic cats who simply live their lives outdoors.
While they may not be candidates for adoption, community cats call the outdoors their home. The most effective, humane way to support them is through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
TNR prevents new litters of kittens, stabilizes colony size, provides essential vaccines, and helps reduce stress-based behaviors like yowling, spraying, and fighting. It is the gold-standard approach for keeping community cats healthy and keeping neighborhoods peaceful.
If you’re new to TNR or want a clear, easy road map, we recommend reviewing Alley Cat Allies’ excellent step-by-step guide.
FRAs is here to support residents of our partner cities with trap loans, spay/neuter vouchers, training and mentoring. We do not have the resources to trap and transport the cats to sterilization appointments. Together, we can make life safer and healthier for community cats one colony at a time.

Once a month, typically the second Thursday of each month, Friends of Rescue Animals sponsors a FREE Community Cat Fix Day at the Garland Animal Shelter. This free service is open to residents of Garland, Rowlett, Richardson, Sachse and Wylie.
There are two low-cost spay/neuter clinics nearby that we recommend, TCAP and SNN. Pro tip! Be sure to get there 30-45 minutes early to ensure you do not get turned away, as each clinic has a maximum number of feral cats they can accept each day.
